National Geographic Traveler magazine, 2008

"Exquisite friendly dining: aperitifs in wood-paneled English bar; standout Quebec gastronomica in dining room favors the local and seasonal; artisanal cheese plates make cake unnecessary." To read full story, click here.

Frommer's Guide, 2008

"Manoir Hovey manages to create the magical balance of feeling like both a
genteel, private estate for a private getaway and a grand resort for a
weekend's pampering. (...) Sumptuously appointed rooms are ravishingly
luxurious."

The Ottawa Citizen, Ottawa, 2008

"I take in the savoury perfume wafting up from my plate, before the first morsel of tender, perfectly pink Quebec lamb disappears into my already amused bouche. (...) I take my time enjoying each successive taste, complimented with simple but well-paired accompaniments of roasted artichoke, puréed eggplant and pepper jus.
My wife and I are enjoying a sumptuous meal at Manoir Hovey, a luxury lakeside inn in North Hatley, a small resort town in Quebec's Eastern Townships, an hour and a half east of Montreal by car (about a four-hour drive from Ottawa). Judging by the wall of accolades outside the dining room's entrance, we aren't the only gourmands the inn has managed to win over.
Roland Ménard, the inn's chef for the past 27 years, recently took home bronze in the national Gold Plates competition against six of Canada's top chefs. His cooking has also been fêted by the likes of Condé Nast Traveler's reviewers and readers: he was included on the 2007 Gold List and the 2006 and 2007 Reader's Choice Awards, among other distinctions."

En Route, Air Canada's inflight magazine, 2007

"Roland Ménard’s dishes use the freshest local produce, and there are two tables of Quebec cheeses. Dinner is enhanced by sommelier Michael Otaka’s wine suggestions, a pianist and superb lake views. In winter, you can skate, cross-country ski, snowshoe and ice-fish; in summer, discover the area on the resort’s Larson speedboat. (More than half the wooded shoreline is uninhabited.)" link to full story

T, the lifestyle magazine of The New York Times, 2007

"Quebec is the new Vermont. Foodies in love with the artisanal are heading to
the Eastern Townships of Quebec. It's New England with a French accent, full of charming inns (like Manoir Hovey), organic restaurants and apple cidreries."

The Gazette, Montréal, 2006

"Arriving at Hovey for dinner on a sunny Saturday night, I am taken aback by the beauty of it all ... the house, the grounds and the killer view of Lake Massawippi. Hovey straddles the extremes of the country-house hotel genre by remaining both grand and quaint at the same time. Entering the inn I see welcoming faces who lead me down a hall to the cozy library lounge, where two hotel guests sit by a fire playing backgammo. (...)
It would be too easy to describe Hovey Manor as romantic. For me, it's more than that. There's something magical - otherworldly - about the place. For that one night I was transported not only away from home, but back in time, sitting steps away from that pillared veranda."

Voir Restaurant Guide, Montréal, 2006

Five stars for the inpired and inspiring cuisine of chef Roland Ménard and his team. A classical cuisine, perfectly mastered. (…) All around, luxury, calm and voluptuousness. (…) Absolutely exquisite, my dear.”

Fodor’s Montéal & Québec City 2005

“Overlooking Lac Massawippi, this retreat feels like a private estate, with many of the activities included in room rates. (…) The restaurant serves exquisite Continental and French cuisine”.

Frommer’s Montréal & Québec City 2005

It’s one of eastern Canada’s most complete resort inns. It has not only closed the gap with its friendly rival, the Auberge Hatley, in the excellence of its cuisine, Manoir Hovey trumps with its sumptuously appointed rooms, especially in the 25 that were accorded extensive renovations in recent months”.

The New York Times, 2005

“The exquisite, romantic Hovey Manor was built as a private home modeled on Mount Vernon, and was converted to a hotel in 1950. Children (and adults) will find plenty to do here.”

Connecticut Magazine, 2005

“…The elegance of an earlier era still prevails. It’s especially evident in the charm of the staff, the stillness of the surroundings and ahhhh, the cuisine. Recipient of both Québec’s 2004 Carte d’Or for the best wine list and the 2004 Gold Medal for Gastronomy, Hovey makes mealtime a journey in itself”.

The Gazette, Montréal, 2005

“…Changes behind the scenes are creating a stir in the front of the house. Some additions are luxuries that we expect in a five-star establishment - wireless Internet, an elliptical trainer in the fitness room, terry bathrobes, double whirlpool baths in many rooms and designer touches like towels by Frette of Italy and toiletries by Aveda. But Hovey has a few surprises. Imagine that in staid North Hatley, the massages in summer are given outdoors at the hotel's private beach. Interior designer John Hay has renovated many of the guest rooms, and Francis Wolf, the sous-chef, is adding an avant-garde style. (…) A priority is cooking with local produce; the menu features lamb, beef, poultry, vegetables and especially cheeses from Township farms and Canadian wines.”

Elle Canada, 2005

Drive 90 minutes east to the Eastern Townships’ Hovey Manor, a romantic lakeside inn with roaring fires, sleigh rides and an extensive wine cellar. (…)
MOST ROMANTIC ROOM: The Cartier Suite, which has a double whirlpool bath, a large deck and a private dock with canoe and kayak.

Ottawa Citizen, 2005

5 Best Country Inns in Quebec
(...) Hovey Manor: Luxury, romance and haute cuisine matched with an outstanding wine list are guaranteed at this five-star historic property on 1800 feet of prime waterfront on Lake Massawippi".

 Ski magazine, 2003

“Manoir Hovey -a 1900 country estate modeled after Mount Vernon - combines the best of retro-style après-ski warmth with cutting-edge cuisine. (…) In a grand lake-view salon (also fire-lit), fabulous dinners unfold in three to six courses of varying complexity.”
